London Studio Renames Hallway and Charges £1,350 for Bedroom 2
A London studio flat listed at £2,400 a month now carries a two-bedroom rent split, with the relabelled hallway receiving the larger share.
A London studio flat is now being marketed as a two-bedroom property after its hallway was renamed “Bedroom 2.” The unchanged open-plan layout carries a £2,400 monthly rent, with £1,350 assigned to Bedroom 2 under a “front-door proximity” valuation.
Applicants objected that Bedroom 2 was a corridor, but one accepted the designation after being told its occupant would enjoy guaranteed access between the entrance, bathroom and main room. The arrangement was signed without any change to the floor plan.
To protect that access, the successful tenant put the bed in the open-plan room and furnished Bedroom 2 with only a doormat. The inspection photograph shows the bed in the main room and the doormat in Bedroom 2; the letting agent has since instructed the tenant not to leave shoes on it, because that would turn the premium bedroom into personal storage.
