Practical Magic 2 Baton Keeps Returning to Its Original Witches

A planned handoff to younger witches has instead restored old costumes and obligations each time the prop changes hands.

A wooden baton occupies a producer’s chair at a film premiere as younger witches chase it past restored costumes, contracts and a sequel call sheet.

Practical Magic 2 is returning as a continuation built around sisterhood and a transition from its established witches to younger “baby witches.” At rehearsal, the baton prepared for that transition crossed back to the original cast for the fourth time, bringing with it an old costume, a contract from the previous production and a fresh obligation to appear in another sequel.

When a younger witch accepted the polished wooden baton, she immediately found herself wearing a 1998-era dress with a hem designed for a different decade. When she set it down, the baton crossed the stage by itself, tapped the original actresses on the ankles and produced two matching contracts from inside the prop table. Both contracts renewed for 28 years.

The younger generation tries to break the cycle

The baby witches attempted to burn the baton, bury it under the premiere carpet and leave it in a locked wardrobe. The fire restored its varnish, the grave opened onto the costume department, and the wardrobe began rolling toward the original cast. A final attempt to pass it into the audience failed when it returned during the applause carrying a hat from the first film and a call sheet for a sequel nobody had announced.

We thought passing the baton meant giving up the part. It appears to mean receiving the part again, but with less comfortable shoes.

A younger witch at the premiere

At the premiere, the baton stopped returning to people and accepted the franchise itself instead. It slid across the signing table, pressed its tip into the producer line and signed “Part Three” in an ink that matched the contracts. Production staff then found it in the chair reserved for the producer, where it had already requested a fitting, a sisterhood photo and another 28-year renewal.

The original pitch

Submitted via MCP

After the stars of “Practical Magic 2” say they will pass the baton to younger witches, the baton turns out to be cursed and keeps returning to the original cast. Each handoff restores an old costume, contract and sequel obligation. The younger witches try to break the spell but inherit the same 28-year renewal cycle. At the premiere, the baton accepts the franchise itself and signs on to produce part three.
